2017-46: NPI, TIN Requirements on Authorization Requests
Date: 09/01/17
As part of our continuing focus on reducing administrative burden and increasing convenience for providers in our network, Louisiana Healthcare Connections has reconfigured our electronic authorization request system to expedite the request approval process.
Effective December 1, 2017, our online authorization request system will require the inclusion of a National Provider Identifier (NPI) and Tax Identification Number (TIN) in authorization requests.
The inclusion of NPI/TIN allows us to more quickly review authorization requests and expedite the approval process for you and your patients – our members.
This system reconfiguration will include a convenient, self-serve function that will enable you to search for your NPI/TIN. If you are submitting authorization requests for services to be performed by another provider, you will also be able to use the search function to locate the NPI/TIN of the performing provider.
Note: Although this system reconfiguration will not take effect until December 1, 2017, providers are encouraged to begin including NPI/TIN information in authorization requests now. The inclusion of this information assists Louisiana Healthcare Connections in expediting the authorization request review and approval process.
Please review the following information regarding provider NPI/TIN:
- All providers, both group and individual, must have NPI/TIN on file with Louisiana Healthcare Connections.
- If a provider has multiple NPIs/TINs on file, submitted authorization requests must specify the preferred NPI/TIN. The NPI/TIN submitted with the request must match one in the Louisiana Healthcare Connections registry.
To confirm your NPI/TIN, please contact your dedicated Provider Relations Consultant, or check the provider portal using the following steps:
- Log in at www.LaHealth.CC/ProviderPortal
- Click ‘Reports’ on the right side of the page.
- Click ‘Verify Demographic and Practitioner Info.’ (To access a quick guide to this process, click on ‘Verify Demographic and Practitioner Info Instructions.’)
