(LDH Retracted) Billing Instructions for Inpatient Hospital Administrative Days (IB 25-7)

Louisiana Healthcare Connections is sharing with providers an update effective immediately for Billing Instructions for Inpatient Hospital Administrative Days (IB 25-7).

Effective immediately, inpatient hospital administrative days shall be billed using National Uniform Billing Committee hospital revenue code 0169 (room and board – administrative days).  Administrative days are defined as days that a beneficiary remains in the hospital but no longer meets inpatient acute or psychiatric hospital level of care (LOC). If discharge is ordered, a beneficiary’s medical record must contain documentation that alternative appropriate placement is not available despite the hospital’s and Louisiana Healthcare Connections comprehensive discharge planning efforts. 

If a hospital does not bill administrative days as instructed above using hospital revenue code 0169, Louisiana Healthcare Connections or Gainwell Technologies will reclassify the administrative days to hospital revenue code 0169 to correctly report paid administrative days on remittance advices and encounter data.
