Did You Receive a Letter from Medicaid About Your Eligibility?
Date: 07/12/21
Before the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE), all Medicaid recipients had to renew their Medicaid every year. Due to the PHE, this renewal process was put on hold. You could not lose coverage, even if you no longer met the requirements to receive Medicaid. When the PHE ends, you will again need to complete the yearly renewal process to keep your benefits.
Starting June 22, 2021, Louisiana Medicaid is sending “pre-closure notices” to some Medicaid recipients. This letter is sent to notify enrollees that Louisiana Medicaid thinks they may not be eligible to receive Medicaid once the PHE ends.
Remember: This pre-closure notice does not mean you immediately lose your Medicaid coverage. Your Medicaid health care coverage will continue through the end of the month in which the PHE ends. You will receive another letter with the exact date that your Medicaid health care coverage will actually end. It’s important to make sure Louisiana Medicaid has your current address on file so you don’t miss this important information. Be sure to call 1-888-342-6207 or visit the Medicaid Self-Service Portal online to make sure your address is correct with Louisiana Medicaid. They are available 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If you move in the future, always call and tell them your new address.
Here are a couple questions you may have:
When is the public health emergency going to end?
Louisiana Medicaid follows guidance from the federal government about the end of the PHE. For more information about the COVID-19 PHE please visit https://www.phe.gov.
How long will I have my health coverage?
Your Medicaid health care coverage will continue through the end of the month in which the PHE ends. You will receive another letter with the exact date that your Medicaid health care coverage will end.
If your situation changes, you may be eligible to keep your Medicaid health care coverage. You can and should report any changes such as changes in income, private health insurance, household size, job, things you own, address, or telephone number to LDH. They will redetermine your eligibility based on any changes reported.
You may check your eligibility status or the status of others in your household and report changes by visiting https://mymedicaid.la.gov. If you have any questions about your pre-closure notice or what the end of the PHE means for you and your family call Louisiana Medicaid at 1-888-342-6207.
