Everything You Need To Know About the SNAP Increase
Date: 10/05/21
In October 2021, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits permanently increased. This means households who get assistance from SNAP will receive more dollars each month to spend on food.
If you already receive SNAP benefits:
You don’t need to do anything to get your increased benefit. Your family will receive up to $25 more per person, per month on your EBT card. For a family of four, that means up to an extra $100 a month to buy the foods you need for good health. The maximum monthly SNAP benefit will now be $782 for a family of four and $234 for a household of one.
If you don’t already receive SNAP benefits and think you may qualify:
You’ll need to apply. Apply online or print and mail in your application.
If approved, you’ll get a special EBT card. An EBT card is used like a debit card. Each month, money to spend on food will be added to your card. Most people get their first benefits in less than 30 days, but those with little to no income could get their benefits within a week.
