Hungry and Healthy Moms-to-be

Date: 03/06/23

Pregnancy can spike your hunger! This makes it the perfect time to choose healthy food options. Good nutrition is not just for you, it’s also for your baby.

Here are some tips to improve your nutrition during the next 9 months:

Maintain a Healthy Weight: A slow, steady rate of weight gain is often best. After the first trimester, you may gain about a pound a week. Your healthcare provider can give you a healthy weight goal for your pregnancy. Remember, your pregnancy isn’t the time to diet.

Start Taking Vitamins: Talk with your healthcare provider about taking these and other prenatal vitamins and supplements. Your doctor may recommend you take iron, calcium, vitamin D, folic acid and more. Some vitamins may not be safe to take. Your healthcare provider will tell you which ones to avoid.

Always Keep a Water Bottle Close By: Drink at least 8 to 10 cups of water daily. This will be good for both you and your baby. Water is best, but if you’re looking for more flavor, add a slice of lemon. You can also try clear soups low in sodium or low-fat milk.

Important: Certain foods and drinks might harm your growing baby. Don’t eat or drink alcohol, raw meats, unwashed fruits and veggies, or certain fish high in mercury. Your doctor will let you know what to stay away from and what to limit, like caffeine.
