Meet MediTrans – Our New Partner in Transportation
Date: 04/01/25
Starting May 1, 2025, Louisiana Healthcare Connections will partner with MediTrans to coordinate transportation services for our Medicaid members.
Transportation benefits are not changing.
Medicaid members who are eligible for transportation services will not have any change to their benefit. They can still receive a ride, bus passes, or gas reimbursement to get to services covered by Medicaid and Louisiana Healthcare Connections. Transportation is only for members who do not have another way to get to their appointments.
What can members expect? Louisiana Healthcare Connections and MediTrans have the same goal – to provide our members with safe, reliable rides that are easy to schedule. We are taking steps to make this transition as smooth as possible for members.
Scheduling a ride
By phone: The reservation number will stay the same. Members will still call 1-855-369-3723 (TTY: 711), Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to schedule a ride.
Online: Members can still schedule rides online. Starting May 1, members will reach the MediTrans portal when clicking the red “Schedule Your Ride Online” button on our website. They will need to create an account before scheduling.
Note: The timeframes to schedule a ride are also not changing. Members must request a ride at least 48 hours (2 business days) before their appointment. Members should call for rides to same-day appointments and Urgent Care as soon as they know they need care.
Transportation Drivers
Because MediTrans only uses transportation providers that are in their network, members may have different drivers than they are used to. All in-network drivers are licensed and insured. They receive full background checks and must keep clean driving records.
Rides for recurring appointments
Members who get rides to appointments that happen on a recurring basis, such as dialysis or physical therapy, will not need to do anything. MediTrans will work with our current transportation service so these rides continue without interruption. MediTrans may reach out to members or their doctors if they need more information.
Gas Reimbursement program
Members who participate in the Gas Reimbursement program have drivers who get paid back for bringing them to medical visits. These drivers must enroll with MediTrans to get reimbursed for trips after April 30. Gas Reimbursement drivers will receive a new Enrollment Form by mail.
