Pregnant? Stay Hydrated This Summer!

Date: 06/30/23

Summer is here and so is the Louisiana heat! It’s extra important for pregnant women to stay hydrated in the summer for their baby’s health and their own.

Here are two tips to help you stay hydrated this summer:

Tip #1

How many glasses of water should you drink each day to stay hydrated? 10 glasses! That's the ideal amount to keep your and your baby’s kidneys working well. Not getting enough water can make you sleepy or constipated or can cause muscle cramps.

Here are some ways you can get your 10 glasses a day:

  • Carry a water bottle wherever you go.
  • Drink extra fluids in hot weather.
  • Skip the coffee, soda, and energy drinks. They can dehydrate you.
  • Hate plain water? Try adding slices of fruit for extra flavor.

Tip #2

Check your urine color. Pale yellow or clear? That's best. Dark yellow? That signals dehydration.
