Provider Update – Important Changes Regarding Authorizations for ABA Services
Date: 03/14/25
As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance care delivery and simplify processes for providers, Louisiana Healthcare Connections will end our contract with Magellan for management of ABA service authorizations. Effective April 1st, 2025, these services will transition back to Louisiana Healthcare Connections.
What does this transition mean for ABA providers?
We appreciate the work our ABA providers do every day to nurture the unique needs of each child and family they serve. And we want to make the authorization process as easy as possible for our providers to navigate. We hope this will simplify processes and ensure continued access to ABA services for those who need them, while also improving care coordination and patient outcomes.
Until March 31st, 2025
Please continue to submit ABA service requests to Magellan via fax (1-888-656-5703). Providers can find tips on how to submit authorization requests to Magellan in this downloadable reference sheet (PDF).
Starting April 1st, 2025
Please submit ABA service requests directly to Louisiana Healthcare Connections. Providers may request authorization by fax (1-888-725-0101), by phone (1-866-595-8133) or via the Secure Provider Portal (link). Quick links to Louisiana Healthcare Connections’ authorization forms are below:

Current Authorizations
Louisiana Healthcare Connections is committed to ensuring a smooth handoff for current authorizations with Magellan. Providers do not need to request authorization until their authorization is set to expire, preferably at least seven (7) calendar days before the scheduled continuation date or as soon as the need for continued service is identified.
Clinical Policy
Effective April 1, 2025, the updated clinical policy (LA.CP.MP.490c) will be available on our website. This revision aligns with current state policy to ensure compliance and clarity. We encourage all providers to review the updated policy online.
