Third Party Liability Carrier Code: Medicare Advantage Carrier Code Update (IB 24-36)

Louisiana Healthcare Connections is sharing a recent update to the Third Party Liability Carrier Code: Medicare Advantage Carrier Code Update (IB 24-36).

In an effort to streamline Third Party Liability (TPL) identification and the claims adjudication process, the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) has undertaken a consolidation project of the current LDH Carrier Code listing published on https://www.lamedicaid.com/provweb1/Forms/Carrier_Code/Carrier_Code.pdf.

Deactivating duplicate carrier listings when multiple records exist for the same insurance carrier will allow providers to identify the proper carrier code to report new or updated TPL as well as submit claims without having to report multiple carrier codes on the claims submission.

Effective October 1, 2024, the Humana Choice PPO carrier code (H99090) will be retired and the Humana Gold Plus carrier code (H19510) will be renamed Humana Medicare Advantage. Carrier code H19510 will be the default carrier code, and the name will change to Humana Medicare Advantage on the Louisiana Medicaid Management Information Systems carrier code list.

Please be advised this effort will result in existing coverage for some members to be updated to the default carrier code as identified below. Additionally, the consolidation to a default carrier code per insurance carrier will modify some existing carrier names to be less specific in the naming convention. When presented with a member’s insurance card, providers should identify the record that belongs to that insurance carrier on the listing even if the full carrier name does not match the card verbatim. The following duplicate carrier listings have been identified to date and will only be available under the one default record in accordance with the published effective date.

This list will be updated continuously and the carrier code listing will be updated on the https://www.lamedicaid.com/provweb1/Forms/Carrier_Code/CarrierCode.pdf website.

LDH has begun this process but must review every member who currently has the Humana H99090 Choice PPO plan and convert them to the new default, H19510 Humana Medicare Advantage plan. In the interim, LDH advises providers to request the Humana H19510 carrier
code for members requesting addition or change to Humana Choice.
